Dear Friends in Christ,

I love to pray for people that more of God’s Presence would be on them, working through them and in them.  Scripture says that “God gives the Spirit without limit”.  John 3:34

We need to focus more on what God is doing than what is happening in the darkness.  Our attention should be on the provisions and promises of God.  We cannot afford to be impressed with an inferior power.

There are different measures and dimensions of God’s Presence.  When God is there, there is always more to come.  We must hunger for and invite that increase in His Presence.

Isaiah perceived this reality when he said “I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple”.  Isa. 6:  The word “filling” implies that His robe filled the temple but then continued to fill it.  He came and then He kept coming, there is always more with our God.

In his book, Hosting the Presence, Bill Johnson, describes a partial list of the measures of God’s Presence, with each one being an increase of the previous:

  • God first inhabits everything and holds all things together (Col. 1:17).  He is everywhere; He is the glue that holds His creation in place.
  • A second dimension of God’s Presence is His indwelling Holy Spirit in the lives of those who have been born again.  He specifically comes to make us His tabernacle.
  • A third dimension is seen when believers gather in His name.  As He promised, He is “there in their midst” (Matt. 18:20) This is where the principle of exponential increase comes into play.   His Spirit increases greatly when we are together in one accord with Him.
  • A fourth measure or dimension occurs when God’s people praise Him, for He says He “inhabits the praises of His people” (Psalm 22:3).  He is already in our midst but has chosen to manifest Himself upon us more powerfully in that atmosphere.  When we praise Him and worship Him, His glory appears.
  • A fifth dimension is seen when the Temple of Solomon was dedicated:  God came so profoundly that priests were incapacitated (see 1 Kings 8:10, 11).  No one could even stand, let alone play instruments or sing.   They were completely undone at that measure of Presence.

God longs to increase His manifestation upon His people.  “We are called into fellowship with God.  In this process, He has made it possible for us not only to come to know Him, but also to have Him live inside of us and even rest upon us.”  Hosting His Presence, Page 100.

King David understood this concept better than most modern day believers.  In Psalm 27:4, He referred to it as the “One thing” I ask of the Lord.   All of life gets reduced to one thing-how we steward the Presence of God.    What do I do with His Presence?  What place does the manifest Presence of the Lord have in my life, with how I think and live?

The Kingdom of God has a King.  The Kingdom of God is within the Presence of the Holy Spirit of God.  “For the Kingdom of God is … in the Holy Spirit” (Rom. 14:17)
