Dear Friends and Donors,

On May 30th, one of our directors, Gaylord Layton, died of heart failure.  Gaylord accompanied Tom Melton and I on many mission trips around the world.  He had a great heart and a huge love of travel, adventure and people.  We had adventures in places as unusual as Kabul, Afghanistan, Baku, Azerbaijan and Romania as well as some of our more frequent ministry places like Cuba, Costa Rica and Romania.

Gaylord developed the Sonrise School in Rwanda to educate a new generation after the genocide there.  It is a school of over 1000 kids which has become the premier school for learning computer skills with the best internet and computers in the country.

I first met Gaylord after Jim Groen had met him and then introduced him to Tom Melton as well. He had just sold his company and was working on a life mission statement which we helped him develop.  He had a huge heart for young people and wherever we went, he would inevitably meet a worthy young person who needed help to finish his or her education and dream for a life vocational calling.  And Gaylord would always find a way to help.

The photo is a picture of Gaylord, Tom Melton, Me, Arturo Castro and Giovanni Mora in Costa Rica about 7 years ago on a planning trip as we were developing the Jaco Community Center and praying and planning for other ways to help young people around the world.
